A cask share (107) in this Staoisha (Bunnahabhain) 2013 Oloroso Barrique guarantees you two full bottles at cask strength when the whisky is planned to be bottled in 2028 as a 15-year-old.
The whisky was born in a Hogshead and was transferred to this Oloroso Barrique on 01-12-2023, where it will rest until bottling. The bottling will take place shortly after the whisky in the cask reaches 15 years of age, unless our tasting panel determines that the cask should be bottled earlier or possibly postponed to a later date.
If everything goes as expected, the cask will yield around 160 bottles in 2028 at a natural cask strength of 54–56%, equivalent to 80 cask shares. We are only offering 70 shares for sale to ensure that all shareholders can receive their bottles, while leaving a small number of bottles for our webshop later.
When you purchase a cask share, you are not just buying whisky – you are becoming part of the cask’s journey. You can continuously follow the status of this Staoisha cask as well as our other active casks via our overview. And if you are unsure which cask share suits you best, you are always welcome to contact us by email or phone.
Staoisha is Bunnahabhain’s rare and heavily peated expression, a striking contrast to the distillery’s normally unpeated style. With a peat level of around 30–40 ppm, this delivers an intense Islay whisky with clear smoke and maritime character. This particular whisky is resting in an Oloroso Sherry Barrique, which adds extra depth and sweetness to the flavor profile. A barrique cask typically holds about 225 liters and originates from wine or sherry production. Its smaller size provides more contact between wood and whisky, enhancing maturation and creating more complex notes. The Oloroso sherry that previously rested in the cask contributes natural hints of dark fruit, raisins, caramel, and nuts, perfectly blending with the smoky base. The result is a powerful yet balanced whisky, where both cask and peat shine through.
This Staoisha (Bunnahabhain) cask share 107 is perfect for anyone seeking a peated Islay whisky at cask strength, full-bodied, with sweetness (from the Oloroso) and plenty of character.
