In Claxton’s 8th release of their Warehouse House #1 Series, we find, among other things, this 10-year-old Caol Ila, aged on an STR Hogshead, and bottled at cask strength of 58.3%. The bottling comes in Claxton’s gift box and in their familiar “flat” bottle type.
STR Hogshead refers to a type of cask where a specific form of “scraping”, toasting and re-charring of a previous red wine cask is used. The casks that were used for STR Finish/aging typically contain red wine before they are sent to the cooperage, where they go through the STR reconditioning process.
We have opened a bottle in the shop, so if you come by, there is also the opportunity to taste it before you buy one to take home. It is also possible to buy a sample here on the shop – while stocks last.
