Glenlossie (1st Fill Palo Cortado) 2016 – Cask Share #094

Purchasing a cask share in this Glenlossie cask that is ageing in a 1st Fill Palo Cortado Quarter cask (cask share #094) gives you two (2) bottles of whisky when bottled. We expect it to be stored until the end of April 2024, when it will then be 8 years old, and has then gained a sherry influence for just over 2.5 years.

The whisky came over to this cask in November 2021 and we bought the cask in January 2022. So that’s why we don’t know where it came from before it was poured into this 1st Fill Palo Cortado Quarter cask.

If this cask share, with Glenlossie, is aged until the expected time (26-04-2024), the whisky will be 8 years old when bottled. The whisky will be bottled unfiltered and is expected to be around 57.8%. Should a cask sample along the way indicate that the cask is to be bottled sooner or later, the cask share owners will be informed accordingly. We expect about 135 bottles of 70 cl to come out of the cask if it is bottled at the end of April 2024. However, we only put 55 shares of two bottles up for sale, as we save a little for the store as well.

The tasting panel tasted a cask sample from this cask on November 18, 2023, where the cask sample was at 58.7%. At this tasting, there was broad agreement that the cask is almost ready for bottling. The picture of the sample bottle is from the tasting in the tasting panel, and the tasting notes are also from this evening.

We will take another cask sample home as soon as possible, so there will be an opportunity to buy a 3cl sample from it here.

Palo Cortado is a rare variety of sherry that is initially aged under flor to become a fino or amontillado, but inexplicably loses its veil of flor and begins aging oxidatively as an oloroso. The result is a wine with some of the richness of oloroso and some of the crispness of amontillado.
