Glenrothes 11Y (Oloroso) – 59.4%
This Glenrothes, aged 11 years, has been given a finish a bit over 12 months, on a 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Octave cask, and comes from one of three sisters casks. 60 bottles of 70cl came out of the cask when it came in bottles same with the other two sister casks. The other two casks also came out with 60 bottles each, which means that this is an extremely limited bottling, in three different finish versions. The three different sisters Octave casks are 1st Fill Amontillado Sherry Octave, 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Octave and 1st Fill PX Sherry Octave.
The original cask from Glenrothes was filled on 3 May 2012 and poured into three 1st Fill Sherry Octave casks on 5 May 2022. The whisky has subsequently “rested” in these Octave casks, until May 23, 2023, when they have been bottled, after just over 11 years in casks.
We poured this Glenrothes on the three Octave Sherry cask so that you can see/taste the difference between the three different types of Sherry finish – this is what we call the opportunity to taste the difference of the sherry casks on the same whisky.
It has previously been possible to buy a share in this cask together with the two sisters casks.
Tasting notes from Per in our tasting panel:
With 3 drops of water, the whisky gets a scent of citrus fruit, and taste of pear and apple. Water is not necessary, but due to the high strength it does not harm.
